About Gulls

The Gull was originally designed by Ian Proctor in 1956, in its first form it was a simple plywood design, the boat had a high peak gunter rig, since the 1950's with the advent of affordable aluminium extrusions, the rig was developed into either a one piece or two piece aluminium spar, still with the original main jib and spinnaker. This sail combination has remained fairly similar to this day, the only minor change to have happened was a different designed jib that sweeps the deck. Since the 1950's the hull has been through several phases, from the original wooden boats, through to a wide variety of GRP boats, most recently the Gull has been produced by Anglo-Marine and now Hartley Laminates.
